Shopify MCP: what each one does, and one that reads every store you report on

“Shopify MCP” means several different tools. Shopify’s own connector for Claude and ChatGPT reads one store at a time. If you report on many client stores, SyncWith’s MCP server keeps all of them connected, plus your Facebook Ads, Google Ads and GA4, so one chat answers questions about any store and its ads.

What each “Shopify MCP” reads, changes and costs

Search for Shopify MCP and you’ll get developer tools, a protocol for shopping agents, App Store apps, code on GitHub and Shopify’s connector, often side by side.

The GitHub route takes the most work. Shopify’s help center tells merchants to use the official integration for each AI tool, and “don’t create an API access token or build your own integration to connect an AI tool to your store.”

What switching stores looks like in Shopify’s connector

Moving to another store in Shopify’s connector isn’t a dropdown. Shopify says the tool “disconnects the current store, and then starts a new authorization.” You can connect “one store at a time, even if your stores are in the same organization.” If you look after ten client stores, that’s a new approval in a Shopify admin every time you move to the next client.

It works with the store you connect, so a question like “did last week’s Facebook spend turn into orders?” needs the ad numbers from a second tool.

SyncWith keeps every client store connected

Our MCP server is for marketers and agencies who report on Shopify stores for clients. You connect each store once, through the SyncWith app on the Shopify App Store. You can “install our Shopify app on as many stores as you need,” and each one stays connected after that.

Once SyncWith is added to Claude or ChatGPT, ask your assistant to connect Shopify, and it sends you a link to the SyncWith app. Finish the install in that same browser, or the store won’t link to your account. Then go back to the chat and ask it to list your connectors, to make sure the store shows up. Do the same for each client store.

From then on, your assistant can list your stores, and you name the one you mean in each question. Moving from one client to the next is a new question, not a new sign-in. The same chat reads Facebook Ads, Google Ads and GA4, so a store’s orders can sit next to its ad spend for the same days.

The server only reads, and it never changes your orders or products. It uses the same Shopify connection as our Sheets and Looker Studio reports, and that connection gets plenty of use: in Q3 2026, Shopify was the fourth most connected source across SyncWith’s Google Sheets add-on and Looker Studio connectors, with 1,549 new connections.

Prompts for a client’s Shopify store

Name the store in every prompt, so the answer never comes from the wrong client.

  • “Using SyncWith, list the Shopify stores I’ve connected.”
  • “Using SyncWith, show net sales by day for the [store name] store over the last 14 days.”
  • “Using SyncWith, get net sales for the [store A] store this week and last week. Then do the same for [store B] and put the two side by side.”
  • “Using SyncWith, what refunds did [store name] process this week, and how much did they take off net sales?”
  • “Using SyncWith, put daily orders for [store name] next to its Facebook Ads spend for last month.”

Check the answer against Shopify’s own definitions

Your client checks numbers in their Shopify admin, so make sure the chat counts them the way Shopify’s sales report does:

  • Name the sales figure. Gross sales is product price times quantity, before taxes, shipping, discounts and sales reversals. Net sales is gross sales minus discounts and sales reversals. Total sales adds taxes, duties, shipping charges and fees on top of that. Ask for “net sales” or “gross sales” by name.
  • Refunds count on the day they’re processed. Shopify shows a sale on the day it was made and a reversal as a negative on the day it was processed. A refund this week on an order from last month comes off this week’s net sales, so a week with lots of refunds can look worse than its orders were.
  • Test orders aren’t in the totals. Shopify leaves test orders out of its sales reports, but it includes pending, unpaid and canceled orders. If the chat counts orders a different way, its totals won’t match the admin.

Use the chat to find what changed. For the numbers a client sees every week, send a scheduled Shopify report in Google Sheets or a Shopify dashboard in Looker Studio.

Frequently asked questions

Is Shopify MCP free?
Mostly. Shopify’s Claude and ChatGPT connector adds no Shopify fee, though you pay Anthropic or OpenAI for your AI plan. Shopify lists no price for Dev MCP, geli2001’s server is open source, and Gaia Suite’s MCP app has a free plan up to 100 orders, plus usage charges. Ours has no separate charge today. Each query uses one refresh from your SyncWith plan, the same as a report refresh, and the free Hobby plan includes 35 a month. Listing your sources and reading your SyncWith reports don’t use any.
What is the Shopify MCP URL?
Shopify’s connector for Claude uses https://setup.shopify.com/mcp, but you install it from Claude, not from the Shopify App Store. Dev MCP runs on your computer, so it has no URL. The Storefront Catalog MCP sits at /api/ucp/mcp on each store’s domain. Ours is at https://mcp.syncwith.com/mcp.
Does Shopify have an AI tool?
Yes, several. Sidekick is the AI assistant inside your Shopify admin. Developers get the AI Toolkit. And Shopify connects stores to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, Muse and Microsoft Copilot. To put a store’s orders next to its ad spend in one chat, add SyncWith’s MCP server.

Paste this URL into Claude or ChatGPT as a custom connector, then sign in with Google:

https://mcp.syncwith.com/mcp

Every Claude plan can add one, though Free allows a single custom connector. In ChatGPT, an admin of a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace adds it, and Pro accounts get read and fetch only. Steps for Claude and ChatGPT are on their own pages, and the full setup is in the SyncWith MCP docs.
